Stroum describes his early life in Waltham, Massachusetts, his Army Air Corps career during World War II, and his business career. He talks about his involvement in the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle since 1967 and his leadership role in the Jewish Community Center financial crisis of 1982. Finally, he discusses his other activities, particularly with the University of Washington's Jewish Studies Program, University Hospital, and the President's Club.

Born in 1921 in Waltham, Massachusetts, Stroum came to Seattle, Washington, in the early 1940s. A businessman and entrepreneur, he was the principal of Samuel Stroum Enterprises, led several other business ventures, and served on various boards. Stroum was a legendary philanthropist, giving to the arts, education, and community agencies - including significant fundraising efforts for the Jewish Community Center of Greater Seattle.
